Fig. 19. Female box turtle with bilateral aural abscesses. This female retained good appetite and vigor throughout the 5 month duration of the infection. Her immune processes finally resolved both abscesses spontaneously in wild habitat with no therapeutic intervention. This photo shows the final stages of the spontaneous resolution. The skin on her right has broken open and the solidified, caseous, abscessed mass is slowly being extruded.
